On her 18th birthday, Cedar visits the Royal castle in the Kingdom of Bywell. She attempts to take back the jewels that belonged to her parents. The stormy 13th turns into a fateful night, and the life of Princess Meredith is never to be the same again.
As the story moves along 24 years, the audience find themselves in the forest of Bywell where they meet an array of enchanting characters and using the magic of the shattered Somewhere mirror endeavour to reunite Meredith with her family despite the dangers. Expect an enchanting and captivating storyline with breath-taking new musical numbers.
A message from the creator and writer Sarah Bishop.
It was 2020 and we all remember it well don't we. My husband Darren Bishop was assisting from a technical point of view on the online zoom calls for internationally acclaimed pop-folk band 'The Dunwells'. Joe & Dave did 200 daily live online interactive shows for their fans across that memorable period of time. After one particularly notable session, Darren said 'Joe and Dave want to write the music for a musical' I didn't need asking twice and very soon 'Somewhere' was being created.
I have been asked many times, how it all began. I wrote down all the things that were in my usually bursting but sometimes creative brain which were a magical mirror, a forest, a heroine, a villain and the names of some mythical characters. Some of the characters made the cut for the first productions and some are still in development.
It was an honour to work with Joe & Dave, Gary Linley and Melody Reed to bring the musical numbers into the story. With each song that arrived, I could feel that something very special indeed was growing.
Indeed, the musical is still in development with new songs in the pipeline and another slightly edited version ready to take to the stage during the 2025 tour. It is a fantastic, rewarding and dream come true kind of journey seeing how it develops as time goes by and watching the different actors and actresses portray the characters.
My vision for Somewhere is to take it to the top. Bright lights and big cities please! I have read in 2 professional reviews that we are destined for a West End stage. It is only a matter of time.... and the help of the enchanted Somewhere mirror of course.
Somewhere first took to the stage at Guiseley Theatre, Leeds for a 3 night sell-out run in November 2022 to acclaimed reviews and standing ovations. This brand new musical on the block landed with a real punch. The world premiere opening night was quite a spectacle with a green carpet for the cast and the audiences, and there were limousines too. A night to remember forever.
In July 2023 the Bradford Alhambra Studios welcomed Somewhere for a 3 performance run and again the show received exceptional reviews with mentions of the West End stage. It was wonderful to see audiences coming back to see the show for a second or third time.
2024 saw the musical accelerate to the next level with 2 productions, including a successful 6 day run at the worlds biggest arts festival, The Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August.
Somewhere took to the stage in one of the prime venues with 'TheSpace', within stepping distance of the world famous Royal mile.
Prior to this the cast enjoyed a 'Fringe preview' day in Leeds where an all but sell-out audience experienced the musical for the first time in a one-act format ready for heading to Scotland.
And it's over to 2025 for the very first Somewhere The Musical Tour.
In Autumn 2025, Somewhere will embark on its first tour, opening with a one-night-only performance at the beautiful grade 2 listed Yeadon Town Hall Theatre.
Following this, it takes to the road with a visit to Joseph Rowntree Theatre in York on the 3rd and 4th October
For the 3rd venue of the tour, Somewhere will head to the beautiful Yorkshire Town of Skipton for performances on the 21st and 22nd November in the Town Hall.
The production team are interested in talking to venues and producers who may be interested in receiving Somewhere for 2026 and 2027. Please email themusicalsomewhere@gmail.com
